What is New in CEED 2013?

    Applicants have to fill the application online and upload the image files of their Photo and Signature in JPEG format and other documents in PDF format. They should not send the hard copy of the application or any other documents to the CEED office.  Check the application procedure for more details.

    The non-refundable application fee has been exempted for Women applicants.  Application fee for Men of general category  is Rs. 1500 (Rs. 750 for SC/ST/PD)

      CEED 2013 Entrance examination will be conducted on Sunday, 25 November, 2012 from 0900 hrs to 1200 hrs. This is approximately one week earlier than previous years. Note that the Exam will be held in the Forenoon session.

      Admit card can be downloaded from the CEED Application webpage from 2nd November 2012.  Sending Admit cards by post has been discontinued.

      The examination will be conducted in two Parts, A and B. All candidates must answer both Parts.
        A.  Part A contains only multiple choice type questions, and B.  Part B contains design and hand drawing type questions

        Part-A is a screening test, which will be conducted by an online
        computerized program. PART-B will be evaluated for candidates who will be short-listed in the screening test. Part B score only will be used for merit list and qualified list for CEED 2013

        Candidates must report to the center one hour before the start of the exam. This is required to record biometric information (Photograph and fingerprint) before appearing for the examination
        1. About CEED

        2. Common Entrance Examination for Design (CEED/IIT) is an all India examination conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IIT Bombay), on behalf of the Ministry of Human Resources Development, Department of Education About CEED, Government of India.
        CEED is a qualifying examination for admission to Post Graduate programs (M.Des.) at the Industrial Design Centre ( IIT Bombay ) , Instrument Design and Development Centre (IIT Delhi), Centre for Product Design and Manufacturing ( IISc Bangalore) and Design Program ( IIT Kanpur ) . CEED qualifications in itself does not guarantee admission to the above mentioned programs. Candidates also have to fulfill other requirements such as tests & interviews of the respective institutions for admission. CEED examination tests the candidates for visual perception ability, drawing skills, design aptitude and communication skills.

        Eligibility for CEED

        Candidates must either have completed or be expecting to complete any of the following, by July 2007:
        • Bachelor's degree in Engineering / Architecture / Design/ Interior Design, or equivalent
        • Professional Diploma in Design (NID/CEPT, or equivalent)
        • B.F.A. (4 year professional programme, after 10+2)
        • G.D. Art (5 year programme after 10th) with one year professional experience Master's degree in Arts / Science / Computer Applications

        There is no age limit and a candidate can appear in CEED any number of times.

        CEED Exam Structure

        CEED examination will the test your drawing skills, aesthetics, sensibility, creativity, problem identification ability, your approach to visual & mechanical design, visual perception ability, design aptitude and communication skills. It will test your ability to, creatively & appropriately solve simple design problems, problem analysis, alternate concepts, justifications for your solutions, visual & textual presentation skills, visualization, general awareness and comprehension.
        CEED examination will consist of two parts. First part tests your drawing skills, aesthetics, sensibility , creativity, problem identification and your approach to visual and mechanical design.         NID Entrance Exam Syllabus & Admission Info

        National Institute of Design (NID) is internationally acclaimed as one of the finest educational and research institutions for Industrial, Communication, Textile and IT Integrated (Experiential) Design. It is an autonomous institution under the aegis of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India and is recognised by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, Government of India as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation.
        NID offers professional education programmes at Undergraduate and post Graduate level with five faculty stream and 18 diverse design domains.

        GDPD (Graduate Diploma Programme in Design) of 4 years duration for students after 10+2 or equivalentlike AISSCE/ IB/ ISC 

        PGDPD (Post-Graduate Diploma Programme in Design) of 2 ½ yearsduration for graduates from variousdomains specific to each discipline.

        15 percent seats in GDPD and PGDPD are reserved for applicants from foreign countries/ SAARC region/ NRIs on supernumerary basis.

        NID EXAM INFORMATION


        How to Apply?

        TO GET YOUR APPLICATION FORM: 

        A) For General Category: 
        The application form may be downloaded from www.nid.edu  website. The completed application forms may be posted to NID/handed over physically with supporting documents and Demand Draft of Rs. 1,500/- drawn on any nationalized bank in favour of ‘National Institute of Design’ payable at Ahmedabad.

        Incomplete or incorrectly filled application forms or forms not satisfying eligibility criteria or forms without required fees will be rejected. 

        Those applying for two disciplines must send two separate application forms along with two separate sets of documents. Any application form not accompanied with set of relevant documents will be rejected. The application form fee ( Rs. 1,500 / Rs. 750) for rejected applications will not be refunded. No official communication will be made regarding rejected application forms. 

        B) For Reserved Category: 
        The application form may be downloaded from our website admissions.nid .edu. The completed application forms may be posted to NID/handed over physically with supporting documents and Demand Draft of Rs. 750/- drawn on any nationalized bank in favour of ‘National Institute of Design’ payable at Ahmedabad. The applicant should also send in an attested copy of the relevant reserved category certificate from competent authority. 

        Attested copies of Caste/Category Certificates required from Reserved Category Candidates: Reserved category candidates must attach relevant certificates of Caste/ Category as per the Government of India rules/format, otherwise the application form will be rejected. 

        OBC (Other Backward Class) candidates are required to submit non-creamy layer certificate from Collectorate. PH (Physically Handicapped) candidates are required to submit certificate from the Chief Medical Officer (minimum 40% disability).

        Hall Ticket/ Call Letter will be posted by December 10, 2012.

        Admission is on the basis of NID’s method of selection, which extends beyond the students previous academic qualifications. The NID Admission Committee systematically seeks evidence of the perception, attitude, aptitude, achievement and motivation essential for a challenging and satisfying design career. 

        The objective of the tests and the interviews is to ascertain the above qualities. Design Aptitude Test (DAT) shall be conducted at various centres. Based on the scores obtained in these tests, candidates will be shortlisted and called for the second phase. The second phase of the admission procedure will consist of studio tests followed by personal interviews at Ahmedabad, Bengaluru and Gandhinagar. 

        Call letters for the second phase of the admission procedure will be posted by Monday, March 4, 2013. This information will also be available on NID’s website . All those candidates called for the second phase are required to attend the studio tests and interview, which completes the process of selection.

        The Admission Committee decides the procedures, grades and weightage every year. The norms for the selection are the sole prerogative of the Admission Committee and the decision of the Admission Committee and the Management in any of the matters concerning the admission process and selection will be final.

        Any direct or indirect attempt to influence the admission committee or its members, academic office bearers or management will lead to the automatic disqualification of the candidate(s)

        • GDPD Hall Ticket (both copies) duly filled in with recent photographs.
        • Attested copies of SSC & HSC marksheets (those who are studying presently in HSC, must submit bonafide certificate from the school/ college).
        • Attested copy of relevant certificate indicating Date of Birth (Upper age limit as on 1st June, 2013 is 20 years for General category– Relaxable by 3 years for Reserved categories).
        • Attested copy of relevant Caste/Category certificate issued by competent authority for SC/ST/PH/OBC non-creamy layer candidates wherever applicable.
        List of documents to be enclosed with PGDPD application form:
        • PGDPD Hall Ticket (both copies) duly filled in with recent photographs.
        • Attested copies of marksheets of SSC, HSC, completed years of Graduation and Degree certificate / Provisional certificate / Passing certificate (those who are studying presently in final year of graduation must submit bonafide certificate from the college).
        • Attested copy of relevant certificate indicating Date of Birth (Upper age limit ason 1st June, 2013 is 30 years for General category– Relaxable by 3 years for Reserved categories).
        • Attested copy of relevant Caste/Category certificate issued by competent authority for SC/ST/PH/OBC non-creamy layer candidates wherever applicable.
        • Attested copies of experience certificate/s, wherever applicable.

        NID STUDIO TEST

        NID conducts 1/2days workshop at Ahmedabad after the declaration of the results of first round of test (DAT-Design Aptitude Test). This test is called  Studio Test. This workshop includes a series of exercises.

        3-D model making-It involves making of 3-D models using the given materials such as clay, wire, string, different kinds of paper, thermacol, cloth etc. The time limit may vary from 30minutes-45minutes.

        Thematic/psychometric test- This test is based on your observation and presence of mind. The time limit may be 1minute-10minutes.

        Audio/visual test-A candidate has to listen to an audio or may be shown a video clipping for a minute and then he/she is to answer a series of questions based on them.

        Portfolio Review- It plays a very important role in the NID’s final selection. A candidate must carry a collection of his/her original work which may include manual drawing and sketching, photographs, computer layouts etc. A candidate must have complete knowledge about his/her work and all the work must be presented very neatly.

        Interview-It is face to face conversation between the candidate and interviewers. A candidate is judged on the various parameters. There will be about 3-4 faculty members and you will be given an opportunity to present design related initiatives and creative work done by you. The interviews will be about your portfolio, your strengths and weaknesses and your aptitude to design, creativity and openness to new ideas.
