NIFT SITUATION TEST

All hopeful students have to appear for the situation test after their selection in GAT (General Ability Test) and (Creative Ability Test). This test plays a very important role in the final selection as it contains 20% of the total weight age. It comprises of 3-D model making exploiting the materials provided to them. The materials may include different kind of papers, thermocol, wire, string, ice cream sticks etc. A candidate has to create one or two 3-D model within the time limit of 2hrs to 2 and a ½ hrs. Each model must be accompanied by a caption and a write up of 50-100words.
You are judged on the basis of your aesthetic appeal, creative and clever manipulation of given materials and an appropriate theme. It is advisable to spend first 10-15minutes of the given time in thinking and drawing a rough sketch of your idea. Decide what is to be done first and what at last. Also carry some stationeries along with you like-pair of scissors, paper cutter, sharpened pencils, compass, fevicol with nosel, quick-fix, blue/black ball point pen, sand paper etc.

NID STUDIO TEST

NID conducts 1/2days workshop at Ahmedabad after the declaration of the results of first round of test (DAT-Design Aptitude Test). This test is called  Studio Test. This workshop includes a series of exercises.

3-D model making-It involves making of 3-D models using the given materials such as clay, wire, string, different kinds of paper, thermacol, cloth etc. The time limit may vary from 30minutes-45minutes.

Thematic/psychometric test- This test is based on your observation and presence of mind. The time limit may be 1minute-10minutes.

Audio/visual test-A candidate has to listen to an audio or may be shown a video clipping for a minute and then he/she is to answer a series of questions based on them.

Portfolio Review- It plays a very important role in the NID’s final selection. A candidate must carry a collection of his/her original work which may include manual drawing and sketching, photographs, computer layouts etc. A candidate must have complete knowledge about his/her work and all the work must be presented very neatly.

Interview-It is face to face conversation between the candidate and interviewers. A candidate is judged on the various parameters. There will be about 3-4 faculty members and you will be given an opportunity to present design related initiatives and creative work done by you. The interviews will be about your portfolio, your strengths and weaknesses and your aptitude to design, creativity and openness to new ideas.

CAREER COUNSELLING FOR ADMISSION TO ARCHITECTURE AND DESIGN COLLEGES

“Sreejanshilpa” is an initiative by senior Designers and Architects in the industry and Professional colleges to assist the young undecided minds in deciding and preparing for a career in Architecture and Design. Ours is a humble effort with a vision to empower students to realise their aspirations through quality mentorship.

We would like share the following information with  the student fraternity:

·        Career after 12th standard is full of choices. In such condition, from among all the fields they are good at, the students need to figure out what will suit them  the most when it comes to building a career. It is to evaluate their strengths and weaknesses, likings, aptitude and interest and to give them a clear direction towards their goal we have designed our curriculum.

·        We would like to make students aware and emphasise the fact that a career in Design is independent of any particular subject.

      

                       For Architecture Colleges, Students from any stream like Science, Commerce or Humanities with Maths can take the Entrance Exams (NATA AND AIEEE) and join the course .

                      NID, NIFT  and  all  the Other Designing colleges accept students from all streams in their Design curriculum. Science is however required for  programmes like B.F.Tech in NIFT etc. 

How to decide whether the student is fit for the field of designing:

·        If the student has good observation power, designing and imaginative expression he/ she is surely fit for the field of designing.

·        However , with proper guidance and preparation any student with inclination towards Design and a yearning to learn can pass the entrance examinations.
